Educational technology leaders are often primary points of contact for supporting tools, devices, and systems. Because our work often involves apps or cables or devices, our eyes are often and sometimes necessarily on the tools and not how they're being used. As a massive influx of school-obtained and student-owned devices inundate our classrooms even as budget constraints, business-minded efficiency, and political pressures mount, how do we ensure that students and their learning are consistently primary in decision-making? How can we avoid language, organizational structures, and processes that fail to keep student learning at the heart of the school in the face of sometimes-daunting non-educational considerations? We'll discuss philosophical and practical considerations for ed tech leaders that always strive to put teaching and learning first.
